LONGER STRONGER HEALTHY HAIR SUGGESTIONS

Healthy Hair statistics:
  1. A healthy head counts up to 100,000 individual hairs.
  2. 90% of these hairs are growing. The remaining hair is in transitional or resting phase.
  3. Daily, between 80 and 100 old hairs are shed.

What to do for a Healthy Hair, These Are Suggestions

Massage your scalp gently massage will boost your circulation.

  1. Shampoo. Nobody can tell you how often you have to shampoo your hair. When you feel your hair is dirty, wash it gentle, with a shampoo that works on your hair. Read the page about how to choose the right shampoo for more.
  2. Always Moisturize your hair
  3. Rinse Best way to rinse your hair is by using vinegar, if possible apple vinegar. Rinsing helps your hair shine.
  4. Water Try to use mildly cold water. Finish, if possible, with cold water, this will close the cuticles.
  5. Drying your hair Let your hair dry naturally. Squeeze the water, and then use a towel to blot your hair. This way you'll have a moisturized, healthy hair.
  6. Hairbrush Do not use a hairbrush until your hair is dry; the wet hair can be easily damaged. Avoid plastic hairbrushes; hair will probably end up in knots
  7. Season, age, sex, food & drink, tobacco, all have a big influence on hair growth. Have a healthy life and you'll have a healthy hair, too
  8. Hair styling Try to avoid curling irons and hair-dryers to prevent hair damage. Also, avoid heat and prolonged exposure to sunlight

Products I use now to maintain my natural hair growth.

I've tried the different types of Organix products. Now it seems I've settled on the Organix Brazilian Keratin Therapy Shampoo, Conditioner and the Hydrating Keratin Masque.

I'm enjoying these because they leave my hair clean, smooth, with little frizziness. It contains avocado and coconut oil. It also makes my hair shine.

I also use the Hicks Edges to smooth down my "baby hairs" and to finish off my natural style, I use the Avlon KeraCare oil sheen. It adds shine and it helps the hair to fight humidity.

As far as my Hairtrition Conditioner and
Hairtrition Leave-in Detangler...which I've co-wash with, I've put these products on the back burner because I wanted to try something new.

Infusium Leave-in Treatment.

To reduce breakage, ALWAYS use a wide tooth comb, and always moisturize your ends.

Products I Use To Help Stop Hair Breakage

WHY DOES OUR HAIR KEEP BREAKING?

When you sap "moisture" from your hair, it loses suppleness and is more susceptible to breakage, Women of color as well as men of color hair needs supplemental moisture to stand up to styling because it is naturally dry.  Curly textures tend to be the most vulnerable to drying out and breaking because the bends in kinky hair make it difficult for natural oils to work their way down the hair shaft.

Chemical and heat styling suck the internal moisture from hair, making it brittle and fragile. To avoid breakage, look for heat-shielding and hydrating products that contain silicone, Taylor says. They coat the hair and help seal in moisture.

LaVar tells her clients to avoid products designed for limp hair. Ingredients that add body can actually strip oils and remove moisture, she says. Experts also suggest wrapping your hair in a satin scarf or bonnet before bed to help your hair retain moisture. Cotton fibers in your pillowcase will wick away hydration. I use a satin pillow case, it helps keep my hair smooth, with very little tangles, but most of all it doesn't dry out my hair.

"If the product feels greasy, it's probably not adding moisture inside the hair," LaVar says. "You need a penetrating conditioner with lightweight oils that are absorbed rather than sit on top of the hair.

Kimble agrees. She says that lanolin or other greasy products moisturize, but they clog the pores on your scalp and weigh hair down. She prefers conditioners with essential oils -- like grape seed oil, for example -- that moisturize without leaving an oily residue. I recommend Grape-seed Oils & Tea Tree Oils, the oils are very light weight in texture, it absorbs into the scalp and hair. It doesn't leave the hair feeling weighed down.

you can find them at your locals drug stores, or shop on-line.

LaVar says that body lotion can be a good stand-in for a leave-in conditioner because it is designed to be absorbed into the skin. Rub a dime-sized drop between your palms and smooth it over the length of your hair.

My Natural Hair 4 Year Anniversary

My Natural Hair 4 Year Anniversary

Hey my Natural Hair Beauties, November 2012 makes my 4th year as a natural hair beauty.  One of my viewers at Youtube asked "how does your husband feel about you being natural?" I have to say my husband absolutely loves my natural hair. In fact he has never seen my natural hair until 4 years ago....yes, that's true. I had relaxed hair when we met.

As a mater of fact I had been relaxed for more than 20 years. Then came the day, it was mid November 2008, frustrated with my thinning hair, due to over relaxing and coloring, I decided to "chopped" off all my relaxed hair. Being left with 2 inches of hair, and after my first co-wash (washing my hair with conditioner) I noticed for the first time that my hair appeared to be curly??... Co-washing makes my hair very soft and it leaves it with a slight wave/curl pattern.

4 years later I must say that it was not easy being natural. As my natural hair got longer and stronger, came the challenge of finding products that would nourish it and help prevent breakage. The videos in this post, are some of the products I love to use on my natural hair. My hair responds very well to these products. There's less dryness, less tangling, less breakage, and reduced split ends. This equals longer, stronger natural hair!

As I move forward on my natural hair journey, I am committed to continue to find and sample new products that will promote healthy, longer, stronger hair. Thanks so much for following along this journey with me. Thank you for all your continued support...It takes a village... lol...you know the rest.

Your Friend,
Dezi

What Is Hair Loss?.......Can You Tell If It Affects You

Definition

By Mayo Clinic staff

Hair loss can start with a few extra hairs in the sink or in your comb. Later, it can progress to a bare scalp.

Baldness typically refers to excessive hair loss from your scalp and can be the result of heredity, certain medications or an underlying medical condition. Anyone — men, women and children — can experience hair loss.

Some people prefer to let their baldness run its course untreated and unhidden. Others may cover it up with hairstyles, makeup, hats or scarves. And still others choose one of the medications and surgical procedures that are available to treat hair loss. Before pursuing any treatment option, talk with your doctor about the cause of and best possible treatments for your hair loss.

Traction Alopecia

The medical term for hair loss is alopecia. Pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia), the most common type of alopecia, affects roughly one-third of men and women. It's typically permanent. Other types of alopecia are temporary, including alopecia areata. It can involve hair loss on your scalp or other parts of your body.

Traction Alopecia. Bald patches can occur if you regularly wear certain hairstyles, such as pigtails, braids or cornrows, or if you use tight rollers. Hair loss typically occurs between the rows or at the part where hair is pulled tightly.

Excessive hairstyling or hairstyles that pull your hair too tightly cause traction alopecia. If the pulling is stopped before there's scarring of your scalp and permanent damage to the root, hair usually grows back normally.

Hair treatments. Chemicals used for dying, tinting, bleaching, straightening or permanent waves can cause hair to become damaged and break off if they are overused or used incorrectly. Over-styling and excessive brushing also can cause hair to fall out if the hair shaft becomes damaged.

When to see a doctor

Talk to your doctor if you notice sudden or patchy hair loss or more than usual hair loss when combing or washing your hair. Sudden hair loss can signal an underlying medical condition and may require medical treatment.

No cure is available for permanent hair loss or baldness. However, you can talk to your doctor about medical treatments to slow the rate of hair loss or to hide hair loss.

Cosmetologist Helps Women Battle Baldness From Braiding And Extensions

by Stephen D. Riley
AFRO Staff Writer
http://www.afro.com

Gimmick commercials, dry shampoos and mythical greases aside, hair loss can be a complex problem to combat. While baldness is traditionally common among men, the idea that it’s a rarity among women is a fading tale. Over 21 million women are affected by hair loss and the matter has become increasingly common in African-American women.

Braids, extensions and other scalp-irritating styles are popular among many Black women. However, they can cause permanent damage.

“So many African American women tend to put braids, tracks or weaves in [their hair] to compensate for hair loss and all that does is actually make the problem worse by ripping out their existing hair,” said 20-year hair veteran Tiffany Masiello-Helt .

Masiello-Halt is a managing cosmetologist, aesthetician and president of Precision, an Ohio-based hair treatment center known for its development of the state-of-the-art Precision Laser Therapy. With several “cover-up” methods designed to temporarily mask baldness, Masiello-Halt’s laser therapy has been successfully treating patients for over 10 years.

Her hair retrieval method uses a technology known as “cold lasers” which works to stimulate the hair re-growth process at the cellular level and is one of the few treatments that works effectively on women.

A number of fabrications make hair loss a misunderstood enigma. Wearing hats, washing hair too often, losing hair with age or the notion that hair loss is irreversible are some of the misconceptions outlined when discussing baldness, a series of falsities that Masiello-Halt dismisses quickly.

“There are 1,000 fallacies out there about what causes hair loss but all hair loss is genetic no matter what,” Massiello-Halt said. “Proper nutrition and diet will help (prevent hair loss) but if you’re predestined to have it, it’s not much you can do.”

The trained cosmetologist revealed several biochemical mishaps that can lead to baldness, including hormonal disturbances and distress.

“Hair loss is caused from an enzyme called DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) and what that is a byproduct of testosterone,” she revealed. “Testosterone being the main hormone in the male body but women’s bodies still produce a small amount of testosterone. So any time a woman has a
hormonal fluctuation in the body, that’s what kicks in the DHT. The DHT also creates an over productivity of the spacious gland where [produces] all that extra oil and it will actually clog underneath the scalp so that you’re not getting the oxygen enzymes and nutrients from the body that it needs to grow. What our laser does is that it penetrates the scalp, breaks off that enzyme, the body flushes it out naturally and the hair will begin to grow.”

The success of Massiello-Halt’s therapy has resulted in the opening of numerous hair centers throughout the nation along with heavy distribution of its equipment to several specialists. The results of the therapy are permanent depending upon the patient and typically prices close to $3,500 with financing options available.

As a result of genetics, hair loss continues to be an ongoing problemfor many races. With the increasing practice of hair retrieval solutions, the art of combating the issue is slowly gaining some much needed assistance.
